So, I'm starting a blog!

It looks like I'm starting a blog :) After months of wanting to make this happen, I've finally decided it's time! I also thought I'd start by giving you a little info about us. So, here we go...

Last Thanksgiving (2011), we moved from a small town in Kansas to upstate New York, right outside of the Adirondacks. I guess I should explain "we". "We" being myself, my husband and our three little critters (ages 4, 2 and 2 months at the time), and our beloved dog "Beaver". It's almost difficult to put into words how much our lives have changed in that short time. I guess the easiest way to describe things is by saying simply that we have come alive. All of us. Even the dog has a glimmer of joy and light back in his eyes that he once had long ago as a pup. It's phenomenal to look at my husband and see so much vibrancy in his eyes. It's so fabulous to live now feeling...uninhibited.

The hubby and I both had a burning desire to move up to New York, my husbands home state, since we first started dating. I can't say that there actually was a specific, outlined purpose for our move...I guess it's best described as a movement driven by God. We both know in our hearts that He was calling us here. It helped that I love cold winters and the hubby and I are both most at home in the great outdoors (and there are a ton of outdoor adventures to be had in the six million acre Adirondack Park). However, God's purpose for us here is so much greater than those things. More on that later...

Anyway, we are here soaking up everything: nature, family, mountain air, the fresh smell of pine and the goodness of our Creator. We are also learning to live a life less dependent on merchandise and commercialism and more dependent on the work of our hands, the beauty and nature around us and most importantly, on our Heavenly Father.

For those who don't know me at all, and especially those who don't know Christ, I can see how some things I could say could sound a little crazy. Bare with me for a little while and see if things I say start to come together. For those of you who knew me long ago and see the change in my tone, I can only credit that to my Heavenly Father. Life is so much more extraordinary that I ever thought possible. Even through great trial, maybe especially through great trial, it is incredible to see the Father's touch weaved through everything once your eyes have been opened to Him. Ok, ok, more on this later too...

As of today, July 16, 2012, I am a wife, mommy, gardener, photographer, free-lance writer (hopeing to get something in print), homeschooling teacher, beekeeper, forager, hunter (ok, technically not until hunting season starts though) seamstress extraordinaire (minus the extraordinaire part), outdoor lover, obsessive penny-pincher, do-it-yourself kind of a gal. Tomorrow or next month, who knows what I'll be. Things change often around here. My ramblings are here for your enjoyment. I hope to share my renewed love for life and the beauty that is as close as our back yard, as well as my new found interest in "how" and "why" things are the way they are. I'll share about my gardening expeditions, hiking, beekeeping, foraging, exploring nature and outdoor adventures, backyard and Adirondack biology, diy projects, cooking and healthy living, as well as general stories about life right on the outskirts of the Adirondack Mountains.  Take what you like, leave what you don't and hopefully you will smile a little along the way.

I'm already super excited for the next blog, "New Year's Resolutions That I Actually Accomplished in 2012". Until the next blog...
